Choosing a battery brand in Sydney: prices and the 2026 export rules
In Sydney the brand decision now runs through the inverter. From late 2026, both networks want inverters that can talk to them, so the model on your quote matters as much as the badge on the battery.

| Fox ESS | 15 kWh | $12,100 to $18,000 | $8,420 to $14,320 |
| Fox ESS | 27 kWh | $16,470 to $28,000 | $10,980 to $22,510 |

The inverter is the decision
On Endeavour Energy's network, flexible exports of up to 10kW per phase need a CSIP-AUS approved inverter listed on the Clean Energy Council's website, with internet and net export metering; without them, a fixed plan caps exports at 1.5kW[2]. On Ausgrid, flexible and fixed connections both need an inverter that communicates with Ausgrid over the internet[3].
Adding a battery is an upgrade on both networks, so a battery quote that keeps an old inverter should say whether that inverter qualifies. Check the exact inverter model against the approved list, whatever the brand.
Paying for it, and apartment buildings
The NSW Home Energy Saver loan is interest-free, up to $15,000, for solar and batteries[4]. For apartment buildings of four or more units, NSW also offers an upfront discount on batteries of 20 to 200kWh usable[5]; larger approved units, such as Alpha ESS's Stax series, Sigenergy's SigenStack and GoodWe's 60 to 90kWh units, are in that range[6].
So which
Fox ESS or Alpha ESS on price, GoodWe if you already have a GoodWe inverter, Sungrow if its premium features are something you will use. Whichever you choose, make the inverter model the first line you check.
Get your own numbers, then get them priced properly
Two minutes of questions gets you the battery size your house actually needs, what it should cost after rebates, and what it saves. Then I find the bottom of that price range for you. No installer sees anything unless you ask.
