Queensland's landlord solar rebate: Supercharged Solar for Renters

Aussie Solar Info · Checked against the official sources listed below, 2026-10-27

Queensland has no solar rebate for people who own the home they live in. It does have one for landlords: up to $3,500 towards solar on a rental. Here is who qualifies, and the order you have to do things in, because doing them in the wrong order loses the rebate.

What it is

Supercharged Solar for Renters offers rebates of up to $3,500 to eligible landlords to install solar on rental properties. It opened on 12 December 2025[1].

Which properties qualify

The property has to be a Class 1a dwelling, meaning a house, duplex or townhouse, or a secondary dwelling such as a granny flat. It has to be rented for $1,000 a week or less and individually metered[2]. A unit inside an embedded network, where the building buys power and on-sells it, is a different arrangement.

The order you have to do things in

First, get your tenant's consent, using the program's tenant acknowledgement form, and body corporate consent if the property has one[2].

Second, apply to the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority for conditional approval, and wait for the letter. Nothing can be installed before it arrives[2].

Third, install and pay. You have 150 days from conditional approval to do that and lodge your claim, with a tenancy agreement that has at least 8 months left to run and shows no rent increase[2].

The system also needs a generation signalling device[2], the device Queensland requires so the network can switch solar off briefly in a statewide energy emergency[3].

Why a landlord would bother

The tenant gets the lower bills, and the landlord gets a better property that is easier to let, with a rebate covering a large part of a modest system. The no-rent-increase condition is the trade-off, and it only runs for the tenancy in place when you claim.
