Fox ESS battery in Melbourne: the value-tier price, and what you get

Aussie Solar Info · Prices from this site's own calculator; facts checked against the sources below, 2026-10-27

Fox ESS is one of the two value-tier batteries on this site, which makes it the benchmark a Melbourne quote for any other brand should be compared with. Here is what it costs, what the range and warranty look like, and what Melbourne's network rules mean for it.

Price in Melbourne

BrandBatteryInstalled, before rebatesAfter rebates (VIC)
Fox ESS10 kWh$7,650 to $13,500$5,130 to $10,980
Fox ESS15 kWh$12,100 to $18,000$8,420 to $14,320
Fox ESS27 kWh$16,470 to $28,000$10,980 to $22,510

Installed prices from the same calculator the free assessment uses, at Fox ESS's value tier. The federal discount is the same for any battery of the same usable capacity[1], and Victoria has no state battery rebate open now[2].

The range

Fox ESS has several series on the approved list. The EQ4800 runs from 9.32 to 41.93kWh usable, the CQ6 and CQ7 reach 83.86 and 97.44kWh, and there are newer EQ5500 and Power Cube series[3]. For a Melbourne house, the EQ4800's 10 to 15kWh steps are the usual fit, with room to add modules later.

The warranty

Fox ESS's EQ4800 carries a 10-year warranty based on energy throughput, which Fox ESS has described as working out to about 4,100 full cycles at 100% depth of discharge[4]. Read the current warranty document for the exact model on your quote, because terms are set per series.

The same hardware, sold another way

The 1KOMMA5° Battery is made by Fox ESS: its warranty is issued by Fox ESS Australia, which describes it as manufactured by Fox ESS and distributed by 1KOMMA5° under its own brand[5]. If you have a 1KOMMA5° quote, a like-for-like Fox ESS quote of the same usable capacity is the fair comparison.

Melbourne's export rules and a battery

In Melbourne the distributor, not the retailer, sets how much a house may export, and it does so at pre-approval, before anything is installed. The rules are changing. United Energy's, CitiPower's and Powercor's connection policies for 2026 to 2031 lower the maximum static export limit to 1.5kW per phase and offer flexible exports of up to 10kW per phase instead[6][7][8]. AusNet assesses most household systems online for up to 5kW of export per phase[9]. Jemena's policy allows it to impose a zero export limit on a new or altered connection where the customer asks, or where exports would be likely to breach technical limits and fixing that would cost more than it is worth, but not where the customer uses a dynamic system it has specified[10].

The tighter the export limit, the more of a sunny afternoon's surplus is worth storing rather than sending out, and there is no minimum feed-in tariff in Victoria to fall back on[11]. That is the Melbourne case for a battery in one line. Your distributor's name is on your bill; ask the installer what limit the pre-approval came back with.

Questions for a Melbourne quote

Which Fox ESS series and usable capacity, in writing. Whether the price includes a Fox ESS hybrid inverter, and what happens to your existing one. What export limit your network approved at pre-approval. And whether the price is before or after the federal discount.

Get your own numbers, then get them priced properly

Two minutes of questions gets you the battery size your house actually needs, what it should cost after rebates, and what it saves. Then I find the bottom of that price range for you. No installer sees anything unless you ask.
